Remonte

This summer the Bien Aimé kids planted fruit trees. While sweating and struggling to carry water twice a day across the field to water them, our middle son had an idea (for this reason we call him Grandpa). He rigged up his bike to carry water buckets. After several revisions, he had his system. He didn’t even get wet he’d want you to know. The idea spread, and soon all of them were riding their bikes to water their trees. So useful, in fact, were the bikes, that they thought kids in Haiti should have some. Even grown ups! To get to school, to work, to do chores. Maybe some of all these extra bikes hanging around could be used? But how many can we send? Who fixes them? How do they get there? And so project Remonte was born.

Introducing REMONTE: reusing bikes to encourage a community

  • Get people moving.
  • Get mentoring by teaching the skills to repair bikes.
  • Get meeting at the Remonte Reyinyon to discuss opportunities around the project and encourage each other within your community.
  • Get making money with a microfinance system growing opportunities from the Remonte effort.

Remonte aims to make life easier for people by physically getting them on wheels, but also by building skills and economy that grow the community. This project will first take off in the mountain community Dufresnay-Marodou.

It might be said the fruit of hard work is… pears! but in this case it is also Remonte – a project birthed from the idea of an 8 year old trying to make his work easier.
